Past Honorees : Danny Glover
Danny Glover, acclaimed film actor, director, and producer, as well as Good Will Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program, Chairman of the Board of TransAfrica Forum (the African-American lobbying organization on Africa and the Caribbean), and recipient of the Amnesty International USA Lifetime Achievement Award, was the fifth recipient of Philadelphia's Marian Anderson Award. Mr. Glover was honored for his long commitment to a variety of causes, including the civil rights.

In annoucning Danny Glover as the winner of the 2002 Marian Anderson Award," Philadelphia´s Mayor John F. Street noted that, "He has achieved world-wide recognition and success as one of the finest actors of our time. He is also a tireless advocate for human rights, for causes ranging from abolition of the death penalty to issues around the global fight against AIDS, to civil rights causes in this country and around the world. Mr. Glover loves Philadelphia and Philadelphia loves him back."

Accepting the Award nomination, Mr. Glover said, "I am both honored and proud to be acknowledged with an award that bears the name of such an extraordinary artist and role model for social change.."
