The Marian Anderson Award has been created to celebrate the fundamental importance of the arts and to honor distinguished artists – those individuals who have used their talents for personal artistic expression coupled with a commitment to the betterment of society. It is named in memory of the legendary singer and distinguished Philadelphian, Marian Anderson.
The Marian Anderson Award has three fundamental programs:
- The Marian Anderson Award conferred upon a distinguished artist humanitarian.
- The Marian Anderson Prize for Emerging Classical Artists recognizing and encouraging important young professional vocal artists from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.
- The Marian Anderson Art Study-Grant Program for highly talented young student artists from Greater Philadelphia who need financial assistance to support their artistic development.
