About the Award : Nomination Process
Annually, the Marian Anderson Award assembles a group of distinguished individuals to assist in the identification of an outstanding artist humanitarian to receive the Award.

The Selection Panel represents regional and national artistic, philanthropic and civic leadership. The Panel comes together once a year, to choose an outstanding individual whose career has been marked by artistic success coupled with a commitment to a humanitarian cause(s).

In addition to receiving the annual Award, the recipient of the Marian Anderson Award receives an unrestricted prize of $100,000.

Process

Anyone can nominate a candidate for the Marian Anderson Award. The nominee must, first and foremost, be:

  1. A critically acclaimed performing artist.
  2. A leader in a cause or causes, or social issue, not directly related to their artistic career.

Nominations can be made by forwarding a letter of recommendation addressed to:

MARIAN ANDERSON AWARD
Nominating Committee
One Parkway, 12th Floor
1515 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA 19102

The letter should note the extent for of the critical acclaim of the nominee, along with a brief description of the humanitarian cause(s) that the nominee has supported. It is helpful to have documentation of humanitarian investment, particularly in cases where the activism of the nominee may not be broadly known.

Nominations are not acknowledged, but all nominations that meet the nomination requirements are included in the list of candidates to be considered by the panel in a given year.

Nominations should be forwarded for consideration before September 1 in any given year. If not chosen, qualified nominations are kept for consideration at a future date.
